Arsene Wenger says he will be fully committed to bringing glory back to Arsenal "until the last day" of his contract.

And Wenger also told the club's AGM on Thursday night that he was determined to leave the team in good shape for whoever his successor might be.

Quoted in several of Friday's national newspapers, he said: "I am resolute to commit absolutely until the last day of my contract to bring back big success to this club, and leave as well one day in a position where it can do even better.

"The responsibility on my shoulders is much bigger, I know what it means for people. I know how sad people are when we don't do well, I know how sad people are when we lose a game."

The Gunners are only two points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City at the moment and Wenger thinks they are legitimate title contenders.

He added: "I think we are back in contention and we have a good chance.

"From January, what for me was the turning point in the history of this team, in the calendar year of 2015, we have taken more points than anybody.

"That means the trend is right."

However, it has not been a good year for Arsenal in the Champions League, as they were knocked out by Monaco last season and have been beaten by Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos this term.

And one supporter branded such results as "embarrassing" at the AGM.

But Wenger said: "You have picked three performances that were not good enough. We have played over 150 games in Europe.

"I accept you have to be over-critical when the performances are not good, but look at the number of games Arsenal played in Champions League before I arrived, look after, and come back to me."
