Darmstadt were promoted as runners up in the 2. Bundesliga last season, which was a sensational achievement for the small club. The club have managed to recruit plenty of players with top-flight experience, which could prove invaluable this season. It reamins to be seen, however, how quickly manager Dirk Schuster can form a team fit to survive the relegation battle they will surely be part of.
Hannover were made to wait until the last day of the season before ensuring their Bundesliga status and will be hoping to avoid similar drama this time around. They've made some good additions to their squad this summer, but it remains to be seen, if manager Michael Frontzeck can be more than short-term solution. Both sides are likely to be scrapping for their survival come the end of the season.
